    Bronzetti's game so, few errors even less winners. There were errors from Osaka's racket to capitalize of off in that first set.

    Good improvement even within a week of coaching change. She did good net finishes and had a controlled aggression. She choked at these in the US open

    The comments about grunts are getting OLD. These are professional players and breath work will differ based on the player and how hard they are hitting the ball. Complaining about it does nothing, just be quiet about it already

    Naomi with Mouratoglou can be really dangerous in AO and maybe this was she needed to reach far or even win RG and Wimbledon next year

    I’ve watched the full match and looks like Patrick already fixing her earlier take back with the forehand and backhand. More obvious with the forehand and first step seems a lot faster too

    Next 2 rounds will be interesting. Putinseva can make a lot of balls. So does Kostyuk if she wins that. You have to be confident with your ball striking to win those matches. 2 players she would have been very susceptible to losing this entire year – but 2 players you'd feel she would likely beat in her prime on a hard court. My gut feeling is the new coach is gonna make a really big difference. It really comes down to confidence with her, being respectable on the return of serve, and keeping the unforced error count down in rallies while being smart about constructing rallies and knowing where to be neutral vs being more aggressive and setting up angles for winners, etc

    The combination of the court speed and Osaka ball striking should do her well, in addition to her getting better returning serve. I hope she can make a solid here in Beijing or Wuhan to follow.

    Naomi's game still seems so risky to me. Wonderful when everything is working but seems like it can fall apart if she is just even slightly off. Let's see if she can sustain this over several consecutive matches. Would be so nice if she could learn to finish more points at the net – higher percentage play. Bronzetti did the right thing in making Naomi hit a lot of balls. Usually when Naomi loses it's because she sprays errors all over the place. Well done today however for sure.
